When you don’t get enough sleep, it negatively impacts your brain’s ability to make decisions, like what you’re going to eat. In a recent study, when people slept for only 4 hours per night, they ate 500 more calories the next day than when they slept for 8 hours. In a different Swedish study involving active MRI’s, observations of brain activity indicated a higher response to photos of food in those who were sleep deprived.
