Thinking about losing weight in preparation for summer? Maybe don't think so hard!
Losing weight is definitely a combination of eating right and exercising but it is also mental! We hear that the last 10 pounds are the hardest when another way to think about it is that they are just slow. So finding exercise you love which relaxes you at the same time can help you get through those last pounds. A Pilates Reformer Class is all about technique. When you set up right, you work the intended muscles. You focus on which muscle is doing what, and you match the tempo of your breathing to the tempo of the movement. Before you know it, your visit to our San Diego pilates studio is over and you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. And you've had the best pilates workout ever. Because you focused, and forgot about pounds for a while. Maybe you even had fun!
At our Mission Valley Pilates studio, we often hear about hot flashes from our clients either for themselves or someone they know. Well, guess what? Good news! A recent study at the Mayo clinic monitored deep-breathing activity as a possible factor in controlling this. 68 women were divided into 2 groups of breathers for the 9 week test:
First group:6 breaths per minute for 15 minutes once or twice a day. Second group: normal breathing of 14 breaths per minute for 10 minutes per day. Between 42% and 52% of the women experienced reduction of hot flashes! One of the 5 basic emphases in Pilates is deep breathing. That's why it is called a mind/body exercise. As your mind controls your breathing in our Pilates Reformer classes, you match your movement to your breath. So at the end of a class, you have not only strengthened your muscles, but you are stretched out and relaxed. Give us a call to discuss it, and reserve your spot in one of our small groups! 858 735 8705
If you catch yourself with constant forward head/shoulder posture, something needs to change. Not only does it usually cause pain, but it effects how others perceive you. This type of posture can be caused by a number of things.....the most common one we all think of is too much time bent over the computer keyboard or steering wheel of the car. But many other factors can contribute to this. Forward leaning sports such as biking are an obvious connection. Foot problems/asymmetries, arm muscle tightness, breathing problems, or extra stress can all cause upper body postural dysfunction. At our Pilates Reformer studio in Mission Valley, we are familiar with this problem. We can help you figure out your unique situation, and develop a customized workout that will help. With our fascial release classes, you will probably feel some immediate relief. Give us a call to discuss it 858 735 8705
Many of our clients resist the execution of deliberate exhales when they work out in our pilates with equipment classes. They say “I’m not sweating…why do I need to breathe deeply?” When exhaling “energetically” through the mouth, the deepest abdominal muscle is recruited, along with the obliques, and the pelvic floor. So why not try it? you’ll feel the whole Reformer workout more intensely.
