A commonly asked question with any kind of fitness workout (pilates,TRX strength training, or cardio),is “When should I stretch ?” In fact many of our clients stretch as they are waiting for our Pilates with Equipment session to begin, or talk about having stretched first thing out of bed each morning. According to IDEA Fitness Journal, a general rule of thumb is to do some cardio activity for 10-15 minutes prior to beginning any workout. This includes prior to stretching. Post workout stretching is also good..particularly when it targets muscle groups that are habitually tight such as the lumbar/pelvic/core region. Pre-workout stretching is only advised when someone’s lack of flexibility prohibits execution of the exercise.
Of course, a huge goal of a Pilates Reformer class is improving flexibility at the same time as building core strength.
